About
A designer who learned to build.
I'm Joey Rodriguez — a designer, developer, and marketing technologist based in New Bedford, Massachusetts, working remotely with teams and clients everywhere. For more than 14 years I've moved across the whole product surface: from pixel-level UI design, to production front-end code, to the email and marketing systems that prove the work actually performs.
That range is the point. I started in visual and UI design, taught myself to develop the things I was designing, and grew into roles where I had to make design, engineering, and measurable results meet in the middle. Most recently I earned a Graduate Certificate in Front-End Web Development and micro-certificates in Web Application Development and UX/UI Design from Harvard Extension School — formalizing the engineering side of a craft I'd already been practicing for years.
I've worn a lot of hats, and I've learned that the common thread isn't any single tool — it's the willingness to learn the next one quickly and ship something good with it.

How I work in 2026
AI-augmented, not AI-dependent.
I use Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini the way a good developer should — to debug and learn faster while still understanding the code I ship. I've used AI to trace AMPscript personalization bugs that were silently dropping subscribers, and to untangle stubborn cross-client CSS in responsive emails — turning hours of hunting into minutes.
The judgment stays human. AI just shortens the distance between a problem and a working, well-understood solution — which is exactly the kind of developer most teams want now.
